Humanitarian projects in Slovenia in December – what do they need?

A better December for everyone: Join holiday projects that bring warmth and hope. The holidays are a time to brighten the lives of those who are facing challenges with simple gestures.

December is the month when the world wraps itself in a festive atmosphere. But not for everyone. For many, this is a time of hardship, loneliness and uncertainty, and these need to be helped. The holiday season is a time of gift-giving, warmth and mutual connection. Every year, a series of humanitarian projects take place in Slovenia, which in this special period unite people of good will and bring a smile to the faces of those who cannot afford the holidays themselves. If you’re thinking about how you can do some good, here are some great projects that need your help.

Caritas Week – Kindness that connects

The traditional Caritas Week, which this year takes place from November 25 to December 1, is a symbol of solidarity and compassion every year. During this week, Slovenska Karitas organizes various events that bring together volunteers, benefactors and everyone who wants to contribute to a better society.

The central event of Karitas Week is the charity concert Klic dobrote, which will take place on the evening of November 27 in Celje and you will be able to follow it live on Television Slovenia. Proceeds from the concert will go to families in need.

In addition, during this period, Karitas collects food and other basic necessities at various collection points. You too can do your part by donating something that can bring joy to someone in your local area – be it food, clothes or simply your time.

Santa for a Day – Make the holiday magic come true

The Santa for a Day project is one of the most popular humanitarian projects in Slovenia. It is a unique opportunity to become Santa Claus for a child or an elderly person who otherwise would not be able to afford a gift. You can register on the project’s website, choose the person you want to gift, and prepare a package with necessities, gifts and warm attention.

The gifts given by Santa Claus are often simple, but for the recipients they mean much more than just material value – they bring them the feeling that they are not forgotten. Boxes with gifts must be delivered to collection points across Slovenia, from where volunteers distribute them further.

Three Winter Godfathers – The Magic of Simple Wishes

The Three Winter Godfathers project focuses on fulfilling the wishes of children from socially weak families. These children write letters to good husbands, in which they often do not express great material wishes, but ask for basic things such as clothes, shoes, school supplies or a warm blanket.

Children’s letters are published on the project’s website, where you can choose a letter that appeals to you. The child then receives your gift before the holidays. Thus, with a small action, you can create an unforgettable experience for a child who will carry this moment in his heart long after the holidays.

Santa’s Angels – Joy for the youngest

The Miklavževi angelčki project, organized by the young branch of Slovenian Caritas – youngCaritas, is intended to provide gifts to children from socially disadvantaged families. With the help of little angels, Santa Claus makes sure that children in need have a fairy-tale holiday experience.

The little angels collect gifts for children – toys, books, sweets and other small attentions. These gifts bring children not only joy, but also the feeling that they are not alone and that someone supports them.

youngCaritas holiday projects – Let’s create magic together

Young volunteers from youngCaritas are actively involved in festive humanitarian projects every year. In addition to Santa’s angels, they organize the collection of food, hygiene items and clothes for families in need. The holiday packages they prepare bring warmth and joy to homes where they need it most.

YoungCaritas is looking for volunteers who are willing to participate in the collection and distribution of packages, as well as donors who can contribute material or financial assistance.

Anna’s star – Food for festive tables

For many families in need, December is a time when the shortage is even more pronounced. Ana’s star has been helping for many years by collecting food with a longer shelf life, which is then distributed among socially vulnerable families across Slovenia.

You can drop off food at a number of collection points that Ana’s Star organizes in cooperation with local communities and shops. Every donation is valuable, as it allows families to prepare a festive meal and spend warm moments around the table together.

Donated food – A hot meal for everyone

The Donated Food project connects shops, volunteers and people in need in order to reduce wasted food and at the same time provide decent meals for the socially vulnerable. During the holiday season, the activities are intensified, as the organizers want to enable as many people as possible to enjoy a warm holiday meal.

The food that the stores donate includes fresh produce that is nearing its expiration date, as well as perishable foods. Volunteers pick up food every day and distribute it to families and individuals who need help.

If you want to participate, you can join as a volunteer, help with logistics, or donate funds to cover transportation costs. Every contribution you make contributes to reducing hunger and increasing solidarity in the community.

An opportunity to change lives

All these projects offer different possibilities for how you too can become a part of wonderful holiday stories. Whether it’s a donation, volunteer work or simply spreading information – every contribution counts. December is a time when small gestures can make big changes.
