Cameron Gaunce will try European hockey for the first time in the jersey of Hungarian Fehérvár.

The Hungarian club announced the arrival of the 34-year-old Canadian on its website. According to him, Gaunce spent five seasons in the most prestigious hockey league in the world.

“There was an unexpected opportunity to sign a defenseman with more than 800 games played in the AHL and a lot of experience in NHL games, which rarely comes along,” said the club’s general manager Viktor Szélig. To add, Gaunce played 37 games in the NHL.

And what made the experienced defenseman, beaten by hundreds of matches on overseas rinks, to accept an offer from Central Europe? “My wife and her family are Hungarian, so this played the biggest role in my decision. My wife and I watch Hungarian ice hockey, women’s and men’s,” said Gaunce, who will wear jersey number 43.

The defender also revealed that he considers the Austrian league to be a high-quality competition, he knows several players in it, and he is also very much looking forward to the fans.

Gaunce worked in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, Dallas Stars, Pittsburgh Penguins and Tampa Bay Lightning. New reinforcements are expected to arrive at our southern neighbors in the second half of this week.
