Hyundai admits: it was a mistake to move all functions to the touch screen

A few years ago, car manufacturers collectively got excited to move almost all physical buttons to the touch screen. The designers thought the idea was probably great, and from the point of view of costs, the decision was excellent. The only problem overall was that the customers weren’t very excited about the craze.

Hyundai has now admitted that its US customers have been very pleased with the new dashboard. The designers state that it was a mistake to put everything on the touch screen and give up traditional switches and control rollers.

Ha Hak-Soo, who is responsible for the operating system at Hyundai, has told the Korea JoonAng Daily newspaper that the manufacturer tried to centralize all functions on the touch screen. But according to him, the customers were not enthusiastic about it. “When we tested it with test groups, we noticed that they got stressed and nervous when they didn’t immediately find the function they wanted.”

Hyundai promises that in the future there will be many more physical switches in cars than at present. The change can already be seen in the renewed Hyundai Ioniq 5. Its dashboard has a much more traditional view than before.
