Hyundai is recalling more than 100,000 cars due to problems with the 12-volt battery

Hyundai is recalling 145,000 cars in the United States because they can lose propulsion while driving. This concerns popular models, including the electric Ioniq 5. It is not clear whether Dutch cars are also being recalled.

This concerns 145,000 cars, including the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models, and three Genesis models, including the GV60. The cars have problems charging the 12 volt battery. The so-called Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) of the vehicles does not work, causing damage.

An affected car then activates the ‘fail-safe’ driving mode. In that mode, the drive power is reduced for 20 to 40 minutes, writes The Verge. The American vehicle regulator, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reports that this can increase the risk of an accident.

Uncertainty about Dutch cars

It is not known whether Dutch cars of the affected types also have the same error. Hyundai Netherlands has not yet reported anything about this.

If so and you have such a car, you can breathe a sigh of relief: Hyundai will replace the ICCUs for free. People in the United States will hear from Hyundai about their repair in January. So there is no rush.
