Hyundai’s largest electric Ioniq SUV up close

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 was not the first Hyundai with Ioniq in the name. In 2016, Hyundai launched a car that was simply called ‘Ioniq’. It was available as a Hybrid, a Plug-in Hybrid and an Electric. Ioniq has now been the label that Hyundai has been using for its basically EV-developed and therefore so-called dedicated electric models for some time now. After the Hyundai Ioniq 5 came the lower and especially longer Hyundai Ioniq 6, but it doesn’t stop there. With the Hyundai Seven Concept, Hyundai already gave a glimpse of what you can expect from the next Ioniq in 2021. On these spy shots you can see the production version up close. Hyundai Seven Concept: the headstrong precursor to the new SUV. First its name. There is some doubt about that. Given the fact that the conceptual precursor of the model suggests that the production version will be called Ioniq 7, it is not inconceivable that Hyundai will call it Ioniq 9. In terms of naming, the car will be ‘on the same level’ as the EV9 from sister brand Kia. Incidentally, the preview of that Kia EV9 debuted three years ago at the same time as the Hyundai Seven Concept. So we will have to wait much longer for the arrival of the production version of the Hyundai. The interior of the new electric Hyundai. What is certain is that the new electric Ioniq SUV will be a big boy. The overall shape of the car is similar to that of the Seven Concept, although it seems that the eccentric buttocks of that concept model will have to make way for a much more conventionally designed rear. For the first time, we see something of the interior of the large electric Hyundai. We see a steering wheel characteristic of Ioniq models, two digital displays housed in a single panel, a direction selector lever on the steering column and familiar touch-sensitive buttons in the center console. The Kia EV9 is available with 76.1 kWh and 99.8 kWh battery packs. In terms of electric lung capacity, Hyundai’s largest Ioniq will not deviate much from that. Hyundai will probably unveil the new model this year.
