“I am a nocturnal animal. I only decided to form a band because I didn’t want to get up to go to work”: Robert Smith, from the Cure)

Robert Smith gave an interview to “BBC Radio 2” where he talked about being a “nocturnal animal” – a conversation that, interestingly, started with sheep.

“I have the only night sheep in Britain. I trained them,” he said. “I taught them to give a paw; I can’t make them talk, but they make good listeners.”

The Cure leader then explained why he prefers to work at night. “I only decided to form a band because I didn’t want to get up to work,” he said. “I thought I would never be able to deal with a boss and that I would never get anywhere on time. At school this didn’t happen anymore and I thought: one day, I won’t have to do this”.

“It’s strange, because I see other people getting up early… I watch the morning program, I see the sun rising, and I go to bed. It only bothers me around January; I get extremely depressed”, he joked. “For the entire month of January I don’t see daylight, and that sometimes affects me.”

The Cure, it’s worth remembering, releases their first album in 16 years this Friday, “Songs of a Lost World”.
