“I am first an Orthodox Christian and then an athlete” – different

The great tennis player never misses an opportunity to declare his love for her Orthodoxy. Every time before entering the court, the Serbian star prays and makes his cross. As he emphasizes: “My faith in Christ is more than the 70 titles I have won since the beginning of my career.”

“The most important title of my life is the one I received in April 2011. I received the Order of Saint Sava, founder of the Serbian Orthodox Church from the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Irenaeus.”

This award is the highest distinction in the Serbian Orthodox Church. He was awarded for his significant contribution to the renovation of churches in his native Serbia.

The charity work of the famous tennis player is remarkable. Funds a free restaurant for the homeless and needy. Not long ago the Novak Djokovic Foundationcontributed 94,000 euros to the renovation of a school in the town of Pozega.

The fate of the youth of his country does not leave the athlete unmoved. In 2015, his foundation in collaboration with the World Bank developed a program for the access of young Serbs to education and medical care. Saluting his generosity, UNICEF appointed him a goodwill ambassador in Serbia in August of the same year.

Novak Djokovic never forgot his roots. He is a devout Christian who experienced his childhood in a country torn by violent conflicts due to the war between Bosnia and Herzegovina. Now he lives happily, enjoying the title of the best tennis player in the world, together with his wife and two children. He and his wife Jelena met at the high school they attended in Belgrade and married in July 2014.
