iPhone 16 Pro may not be a special revolution. However, this model introduces something new that I use every day and I really appreciate it.
This year’s iPhones did not arouse any major emotions in me. Switching to a newer model from year to year does not really guarantee any drastic changes – and certainly not those that would be visible or noticeable. And in fact, the biggest change in the case of the iPhone 16 Pro is the longer operating time on one charge.
This year, however, Apple paid even more attention to one of the most important modules for many users: cameras. The smaller iPhone not only got a 5x lens, but also new modes related to color profiles. The most noticeable new feature, however, is… an additional button on the casing. And although I was initially unconvinced about it – and I still have a lot of “buts” about it, we liked each other and… I use it every day.
The camera button in new iPhones – a useful novelty that I use every day
Apple presented the new button to us as a revolution and a huge change that will allow us to use the camera module more effectively. And in fact: there is no shortage of gestures and facilities through which we can control the camera. The problem, however, is that using them is not only unintuitive, but also inconvenient – and if I actually want to take a photo, I still select the volume button. It has not failed for years and everyone knows how to use it, and there is no risk of moving something, zooming in, or generally speaking – in short – of something going wrong.
And although I wasn’t impressed with the advanced functions of the mentioned button, its presence itself is a big plus for me. So far, every time I wanted to activate the camera module, I blocked my smartphone – because calling it from the lock screen was the easiest and fastest option. Now I don’t even have a shortcut to the system camera application on the main screen (it was replaced by Halide, in which I don’t use any AI support) — and if I have to call it up from there, I do it with a gesture… or with this additional button Exactly.
And it is this function related to the new button that captivates me the most. The option of expressly calling the camera application (system or any one we want – it can be configured in the system settings) is something I use every day. And after these few weeks with the iPhone 16 Pro – every time I reach for the previous model, I miss it very much. At the same time, I have the impression that Apple should pay more attention to both gestures and options that we could program ourselves to make us use the cameras… simply better!
