“I fight with all my might! I wasn’t even allowed at the training base”

Cosmin Matei was suspended, on August 5, for six months, because he was detected positive in an anti-doping control.

The ordeal of the Superliga footballer suspended for doping

The National Anti-Doping Agency said Sepsi’s player could no longer carry out any football-related activity for six months, but the midfielder, through his lawyer, appealed. He asked for the suspension of the execution of the sentence until the case is resolved, and he won.

The Hearing Commission from ANAD informed, on August 25, that Matei can return to Sepsi. In those three weeks, however, the player went through a real ordeal.

“I am fighting with all my strength. It is very difficult. I have the support of the club. I want to win the appeal. I did everything I could to prove my innocence.

Everyone was with me: my colleagues, the coach and my family. I trained on the beach. I went to synthetic and gym. I did everything I could. I wasn’t allowed to train with the team. I’m not even allowed at the training base,” said Matei, appropriately Digi Sport.

He also referred to the match lost by Sepsi with 0-2 in Galati, in front of Oțelin which he was a full-time player, although he caught only a few days of training with the team from Sfântu Gheorghe.

“In the first half we looked very bad. In the second half, the opponents knew how to defend themselves and held on to the result.

I don’t know what else to say. I’m not in a position to talk about my colleagues. We need to improve absolutely everything, starting with the attitude. That way we will be able to hope for a point or points again.

We have to have that hunger for results. Let’s show that we are strong. Let’s show personality. We don’t have to be fearful. We don’t have to be afraid of a team like Oțelul Galati”, said the midfielder.
