Since deciding to quit drinking, Jade (@thehealingchapter on TikTok) has been sharing her journey to blissful sobriety with her followers. This young mother “in her twenties” didn’t wait until January to go on a dry diet (the traditional dry January) and she regularly talks about her journey since she stopped drinking and “the unexpected joy of being sober.”
On the occasion of her fiftieth day without alcohol, she took stock of all the positive changes she noticed, starting with her anxiety level, which decreased drastically.
“I suffer less from anxiety and I am less aggressive”
“I was always in a constant state of anxiety and brain fog when I was drinking. This anxiety was still present for the first few weeks after quitting but I have noticed a huge reduction in my anxiety now,” she explains.
She also noted significant changes in his mood, particularly in his outbursts. “When I was drinking, I was frequently angry, irritable, with no patience,” she said. “Today, my partner and I hardly argue anymore and I’m not as angry at the world anymore.”
“I have officially reached a healthy weight”
Jade also reveals that quitting alcohol allowed her to lose weight in just over 7 weeks. “I always struggled to maintain my weight without realizing how high the calories alcohol was,” she admitted. “But now I’m officially at a healthy weight and I have lost 3.6 kg since my last verre.”
However, she does not hide the fact that stopping alcohol has awakened cravings for sugar, as is sometimes the case in people who stop smoking. “I never had a sweet tooth before, but since quitting alcohol, I always crave chocolate and sweets. Probably because my body was used to the high sugar levels in sugar. wine”.
“I am able to take better care of myself”
This path to sobriety also allowed him to improve his approach to “self-love and care.” She remembers how alcohol featured in her free time: “Wine in the evenings and drunken weekends… and the rest of the time I was hungover. Now I use my free time for things that bring me joy and I’m able to take better care of myself.”
She recognizes that it is not easy and warns those who wish to follow the same path. “It’s not easy and all the emotions we suppressed with years of drinking slowly start to surface again when we get sober. You have to learn to accept them and give yourself grace.”
What Jade doesn’t know but experts have determined in various studies is that after about two months of abstinence, there is also an improvement in immune function, which makes the body more resistant to infections. And that after 6 months without alcohol, cognitive abilities, such as memory and concentration, improve significantly. Something to make you want, perhaps, to become sober too?
