When it comes to wireless headphones, Huawei is a leader thanks to its innovative approach to creating its devices.
And don’t be confused by the fact that visually almost all in-ear headphones from different brands very similar among themselves. Indeed, if the stem shape provides the best fit in the ear, then why reinvent the wheel? You can focus on the technical bells and whistles that new Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 enough.
For example, these headphones have a smart noise reduction with several levels, support for control using head movements, and the sound… The sound really deserves to be considered one of the most rich and voluminous that I have heard in recent years in headphones of this form factor.
Briefly:
Next, I will show in detail all aspects of these headphones: from design and functionality to sound quality and active noise cancellation. It will be interesting, welcome to the world of heavy luxury according to Huawei.
Design and ergonomics
The headphones come in a stylish box and can be taken as a gift.
The case is made of plastic with a matte finish, which is not only resistant to fingerprints, but also pleasant to the touch. Its dimensions are 46.9 mm × 65.9 mm × 24.5 mm and weighs 47 grams.
Available colors include white, black and green, which is more reminiscent of pistachio. Regardless of the color choice, your Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 will have a golden decorative stripe and the Huawei logo in a square ceramic insert.
I’m not a big fan of gold accents, but in the case of the black version of the case it looks harmonious and does not hint at “gypsyism”. As a separate advantage, I would like to note the excellent non-marking properties of the matte plastic; there are practically no fingerprints left on it. Only if your fingers are very wet or greasy.
Opening the case cover (on magnets, reclines moderately tightly), you can see the headphones themselves. Their body, as well as the inside of the case, are made of glossy plastic.
The set includes a lot of different tips for a perfect fit in any ears.
It looks nice, but from a practical point of view, be prepared to constantly wipe and polish the headphones themselves and the insides of the case with a cloth. This is where fingerprints remain.
On the side of the case there is also a discreet button for pairing headphones with new devices, on the front there is a blinking LED indicating the connection status and charge level, and at the bottom you can find a USB-C charging port.
The headphones themselves are quite light, each weighing 5.8 grams. By default, the headphones are equipped with silicone earbuds in size M, but the kit includes six more pairs of spare earbuds of different sizes.
The headphones provide up to 6 hours of music playback on a single charge (with ANC disabled) and about 4 hours with active noise cancellation. The charging case adds up to 27 hours of battery life, allowing you to use the device all day long.
Fast charging is another plus: total 10 minutes The case gives up to 2 hours of playback.
Sound
The combination of matte and glossy plastic looks stylish.
Sound is the main trump card of Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4. Moreover, you can fully experience their sound when paired with flagship Huawei smartphones, such as Pura 70 Pro/Ultra, or Mate X6. It is in conjunction with these smartphones that sound is transmitted to headphones via the proprietary L2HC 4.0 lossless codec at a speed of 2.3 Mbit/s. using Huawei Sound technology.
But FreeBuds Pro 4 can also be connected to Android smartphones, as well as your iPhone. The sound is impressive in any case, because there is support for SBC, AAC and LDAC codecs.
The secret is in the two speakers, which the engineers were able to fit into the tiny body of each earphone. One driver is a dynamic dome with a diameter of 11 mm, but the second is a magnetoplanar driver with a flat diaphragm for bright mid and high frequencies. There is support for HD spatial audio, a triple adaptive equalizer, and the audio range varies from 48 kHz to 14 Hz.
There is a start-stop sensor when removing the earphone from the ear.
The headphones are great for a wide variety of music genres. Whatever track I play, the bass sounds impressive: deep, rich and yet clear. Even at maximum volume, low frequencies do not lose their expressiveness and do not “clog” other ranges. So even fans of electronic music and hip-hop will be pleased.
Mid frequencies reveal all the beauty of vocals and instrumental parts. Voices sound natural, without digital coloration, which makes listening especially enjoyable. Acoustic compositions are conveyed with maximum detail and warmth.
High frequencies remain crisp and clear, even with complex musical parts. The headphones do an excellent job of reproducing classical, jazz and other genres where the accuracy of the details in the track is important.
Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)
Ideally cuts out noise in the subway.
A few words about the advanced active noise reduction system. Using three microphones and intelligent algorithms, the headphones effectively eliminate extraneous sounds, creating a comfortable sound environment.
The noise cancellation is so effective that you can be completely immersed in your music even in the noisiest environments – whether you’re riding the subway, walking down a busy street, or working in a noisy office.
Several noise reduction modes are available to the user:
Dynamic — automatically adapts to the noise level.
Comfort – for places with low noise levels.
Ordinary – for places with high noise levels.
Ultra – for places with very high noise levels (airplane or subway).
Also available transparency modewhich allows you to hear surrounding sounds without removing your headphones. This is convenient when moving around the city or while communicating.
For greater convenience, you can control the headphones by nodding your head in different directions to answer a call or end a conversation. Of course, each earbud has a touch panel for controlling tracks and volume.
Huawei AI Life app
This is what connecting headphones to Huawei Pura 70 Ultra looks like.
If you connect Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 to a Huawei smartphone, then you don’t need to do any additional actions at all. My Pura 70 Ultra immediately saw the headphones and showed a beautiful pairing animation with a short instruction about the controls on the “legs” of the headphones.
However, if you want to adjust the noise reduction, play with the equalizer, or turn off the speaker in the case so that it does not squeak, then you need the Huawei AI Life companion application. It is available in both company store Huawei applications, and in App Store. There is currently no such application on Google Play.
The HUAWEI AI Life app gives you access to advanced settings: in addition to the above, you can also update the firmware and even find lost headphones using the search function.
What’s the result? Not only for Huawei fans
Huawei owners, you’re in luck. Headphones – top.
Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 are ideal headphones primarily for owners of flagship Huawei smartphones. If you want to hear your media library in a new way, listen to it through FreeBuds Pro 4, a sea of positive emotions is guaranteed.
For everyone else, I can recommend Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4 as a worthy alternative to Apple headphones, if for some reason you don’t recognize them and are still looking for compact earbuds with excellent sound.
Today these headphones can be purchased for 18,999 rubles and this is a good price tag for the most flagship TWS headphones, packed to the brim with modern technologies.
