Chiara Balistreri was a guest of Verissimo in the episode of Sunday 17 November. The girl told her story of physical and psychological violence by her boyfriend Gabriel, who managed to escape from house arrest after yet another complaint.
Chiara Balistreri she is the girl whose appeal went viral on social media, after the news that her ex-boyfriend Gabriel Costantin, whom she reported, managed to escape from house arrest. “I prefer to register alive” she said in a video published on Instagram, in which she told her story. In Silvia Toffanin’s living room, at Verissimo, she went into detail about everything she experienced, without hiding her disappointment in seeing that, even today, she has to live with the fear that something might happen to her.
From the beginning of the story with Gabriel to today
Chiara Balistreri’s story starts from today, from the sensations she has experienced this month, knowing she will never be truly safe until they stop, once and for all, the boy who hurt her:
They have been two and a half terrible years, he has been on the run for two and a half years, since I filed the complaint in 2022, even more so this month because we learned that he has returned to Italy, and has been placed under house arrest, from which he ran away.
The girl continues saying: “It’s bad when you have to live with this fear, it changes your way of living, of thinking. He is active on social media, defames me, tries to explain why he beat me.” Yet, the beginning of their love story seemed promising. The attraction, but also the care that he had always shown towards her, were enough for her to be able to trust the boy who was at her side:

He gave very touching speeches on a human level, he seemed like a sensitive person. The first violence began after a year, imagine being with a person who seems like Prince Charming and then turns out to be a monster. He was always jealous, then it kept getting worse. He was jealous of how I dressed, my makeup, my social media.
As time passed, however, something changed, especially in Gabriel’s attitude, which was increasingly manipulative, so much so that Chiara declared that she had been plagiarized by her boyfriend:
I never went home again, I always stayed with my parents, when my mother started to see that something was wrong, I hid for a long time, this raising of my hands had become a habit. I tried to leave him to take back control of my life, my family gave me a huge hand in this, when we argued I went home. But it had become difficult to hide certain things.
The story of violence
In recent years there had been no shortage of episodes of violence, after which he tried to apologize in every way: “There was always a great repentance on his part, a side of him that was skilled in manipulating me. I believed these monologues of his.” Then, in 2022, the event that led Chiara to report Gabriel, when he lashed out at her and broke her nose:
We had broken up some time ago, I was aware that something was wrong with him. I went to him because he had threatened to kill himself, that evening I received a message from a friend, he saw this message, got angry and told me “You’re dying today”. I understood that that evening would be hard. Whatever I did was an incentive to do worse, he got nervous. I was on the landing of his house, he started pushing me, slapping me. I was clinging to the railings, I managed to get him off me, the moment I got up he punched me and broke my nose, he didn’t calm down, at that moment I thought I had to stay clear, he didn’t want me take me to the hospital, he started beating me at 1am and I got to the hospital at 4am. The doctors asked me if it was him and I had the courage, for the first time in years.
In a video, shown in the studio, Chiara’s mother also intervenes, having been at her side in these years of great fear and suffering: “I think I protected my daughter more than anyone who should have done so. Chiara, you could become a champion for all those girls who didn’t have the courage to speak.”

In 2022, Chiara reported Gabriel, who managed to escape and was away for two years, until once he returned to Italy they placed him under house arrest, from which he also managed to escape this time. There is disappointment and anger in seeing that he is still in danger:
For a woman who has remained silent for so many years, because there is a lot of psychological stress behind it, I entrusted myself to the law, I hoped they would do something. There my first disappointment came, when he managed to escape the first time and remain unpunished, my trust was lost, we knew where he was, because he posted from his social networks, they could have done something more, if I hadn’t had the strength at the media level to make this thing public, the report to 113 wouldn’t even have arrived. He is free, he can do what he wants.
Then speaking about how Gabriel’s mother always took her son’s side, minimizing what had happened, Chiara replies: “I think they haven’t been taught what love is, a child is even caught where he makes mistakes and behaves in an absurd way. I think it’s also the fault of some mothers if their children end up doing things like that.”
