‘I want to be the best in history, winning the Red Bull Batalla de Gallos World Cup would hit the table’

It has been five years since an event of the magnitude of the Red Bull Batalla de Gallos International Final I was stepping into a country like Spain. He freestyle It is a discipline that has been in parks and squares for decades and that for several years has advanced by leaps and bounds until it is industrialized and reaches the stage.

It is very difficult for someone who follows the battles not to think of this competition when talking about improvising.. Win the international Red Bull competition It is today the greatest aspiration of a freestyleralthough more and more competitions are emerging in Spain and Latin America. The steps to follow are not easy. Ask Gabriel Sánchez.

Everyone in the world knows him as Gazir. At almost 23 years old, he has won, among other titles, two consecutive FMS leagues and is the current champion of the Red Bull Spanish Nationalwhich has opened the doors for him to be, along with Chuty, one of the representatives of Spain in the International Final, which will be held on November 30, 2024.

Many nicknamed him The Promise when he gave the big surprise to win the Red Bull Alicante Regional 2019beating fighters of the stature of Hardem LC, Errecé, BTA and Zasko Master. At the International in Chile 2021 he came in third place, in Mexico 2023 he lost the final against Aczino and in 2023, losing in the round of 16 against Fat-N was a very hard blow.

Now you have a golden opportunity to win your first international Red Bull belt, which will be held on November 30 at the Wizink Center (Madrid, Spain) at 8:00 p.m. and establish yourself as one of the best freestylers of history. One that has only just begun for him, because he has no goal other than to be the best. In just a few years he has gained a lot, but that is not enough, because Gazir has no goal other than to be the best.

– There is nothing left for the International Final. What are your feelings?

Very good, really. I see myself in my best moment, I see that there are six, five, four months left for the International, now it is getting closer and there is little left. Happy and looking forward to these previous days and above all for it to arrive now, because I have a lot of enthusiasm, ambition and motivation to compete and I know it is going to be an incredible day.

-How can one mentally prepare for a day like this?

Now I’m not doing mental preparation. I have been mentally preparing for a day like this for the last five years of my life, ever since I discovered the freestyle practically. I started rapping at events and came to see the International in Madrid 2019. Seeing this from the outside made me want so much to be able to be inside… It became my dream and from there, when it comes to fighting to fulfill it, you already have the necessary mental strength, however and whenever it may be.

– Has it been your top priority all these years?

Right now it’s my top priority. It has always been my biggest dream, that of my family: to be Red Bull world champion. Then other objectives began to appear, like this year, which was to reach this International, passing the stages of being regional and national champion. But the International is that, not an objective, it is a dream. Winning it here at the Wizink Center, where I came to see it a long time ago, gives me more ambition.

– Let’s not jinx it, but if you win it, will there be more ambition?

It’s my dream, but the good thing is that when I achieve it, it unlocks my next dreams or goals. I want to be the best in history and with this I would hit the important table, at a historical level it would position me well enough to continue fighting in the following years to climb those positions.

– Being so much in the media spotlight, both in the press and on social networks, do you feel any type of pressure in particular that you have to win YES or YES?

I don’t really feel that pressure from the networks or the press, because the one who has put the most pressure on me has always been myself. I wanted to demand things from myself that I know I can achieve and that I deserve them. Maybe at some point it seems that you demand too much of yourself, but when you know that you deserve it, you know that it is not so. More than a pressure, a responsibility.

– Of all the rivals on the list. What is the biggest threat to you?

More than a threat to me, I think my threat is going to be me. I know that sometimes I can be more out of place, or that at some point I am not at 100%, that worries me. I want to go out at my 100% and I know that if I do, I don’t worry that someone else is also at their best level because I trust mine. There are very good people, obviously, it is the Red Bull International and the list gets better every year. I worry only about myself and I go calmly.

I don’t feel pressure from social networks or the press, the one who has been most pressured is me.

Gazir, about being so much in the media spotlight on social networks.

– Is there any freestyler Who do you miss on that list?

Aczino has been in all the internationals for a long time, I would like him to be in this one too. I understand that, in the end, you also need a break. When I came to see it (the 2019 final), the champion was Bnet, if he was also in this one, it would make it more epic, since I saw him compete and be champion from the outside, I would like to fight him for the belt from the inside. But I think that with the list and the people there it is incredible and there are good rivals to make it epic.

– Tell me about formats. A format like Freestyle Master Series (FMS) could die before one like Red Bull?

I understand that in the end at the FMS there are many dates a year, so it burns out sooner. Red Bull has that magic that in each country you only have the regional and national date and the international date every five years, so it doesn’t burn as much. FMS is looking for something different, it cannot have that magic or essence that Red Bull has, so unique and exclusivity. What FMS has to look for is to adapt to being something more stable and frequent, because the circuit must be given continuity and we must not only see each other every 12 months.

– You travel in time to the day of the final. What would you tell your self before going out to rap?

May you enjoy it. He is aware of how he got there, of everything he has had to lose, gain and work to get there. And that he knows that he is the one who deserves it the most of the 16.

– Chuty will also represent Spain. What would you say to him as a rival and what would you say to him as a friend?

As a rival I would tell you that I like our rivalry. We always demand that the other give their best. Until I arrived in Spain, I had not had a rival who competed with him and managed to win some important tournaments several times. Yes, he had had it at Red Bull with Skone and people of his generation. But from later generations, I needed to have a rival to beat and he needed a rival from the new generations. Our rivalry demands and gives both of us the best level.

As a friend, I am very happy that someone with his career ended up getting the International, but that he settled for one (laughs).

– Now there is a fashion to say that any good rhyme is prepared

People who see things this way speak from their own limits. When I watch football, I know that I’m bad at playing it and that if Neymar makes a bicycle, he doesn’t do it because he’s doped, but because he knows how to do it and I don’t. You have to see it from that prism of illusion. When I arrived on big stages for the first time I saw people who had been doing this for years doing crazy things, I didn’t think I was prepared. I thought, damn, you can do that by improvising, that’s crazy, I’m going to do it myself. My advice to these people is that they see it more from the illusion, that they do believe in magic and that way they will enjoy it more and the moment too.

– I always leave this question for last. A lot is done, but little is done from the heart. How are you?

I’m fine, with nice nerves. In the end there is little left for the International and I am enjoying coming to take photos, interviews, then to rap with some colleagues. Being at this moment in the preview I am enjoying it because if in the future when I am not in the International I will miss this a lot. Before arriving at Inter, I was very angry when I couldn’t be there. It is my best moment, being a little aware of the present to enjoy it. I am happy because I know that I have arrived here with the work done to get there well and get the belt. Because that, I know that medals are not won on the day of the fight, but with all the previous years and how you get there. I’m proud.
