Although the cost of overseas travel is more than seven times higher than that of domestic travel, satisfaction was found to be much higher. According to Consumer Insight, a travel research agency, on the 5th, according to an annual travel satisfaction survey of travelers, Korea ranked at the bottom among Asian countries.

Korea’s travel satisfaction score was 701 points, ranking 26th, below the Asian average (722 points). On the other hand, Switzerland (812 points) and Austria (811 points) ranked first and second, followed by Hawaii, Spain, and the Czech Republic. In Asia, Japan ranked 10th with 755 points, followed by Turkye, Indonesia, Macau, and Vietnam.

The survey was conducted on 12,073 people who had traveled abroad over the past year and 17,052 domestic summer vacation travelers. The average cost of a single trip was 231,000 won domestically and 1,765,000 won overseas, which was 7.6 times higher than domestically. Domestic travel expenses are decreasing after peaking at 260,000 won in 2022.

Consumer Insight pointed out that there is a need to analyze why travelers prefer overseas travel despite cost differences. There was a demand for ‘revenge travel’ after the pandemic, but it was temporary, and even in a situation of high inflation and high exchange rates, travelers are spending more on overseas travel.
