“I wish we had …”

Ferrari star Charles Leclerc’s name has been mentioned regularly for several years when it comes to the circle of the most promising candidates in the hunt for the Formula 1 world championship title. In the end, however, the Monegasque always came up short, and it does not look like he or the Scuderia will triumph in 2024 either. A situation that leaves Leclerc disappointed.

Charles Leclerc has expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that Ferrari is currently playing fourth fiddle in Formula 1.

Although the traditional racing team from Maranello is still in third place in the World Championship with 345 points behind Red Bull Racing (408 points) and McLaren (366), looking at the last few races, Mercedes (266) has also recently overtaken the Reds in terms of performance.

No wonder Leclerc is disappointed that he has little say in the title race. “At the moment we are simply not where we would like to be in terms of performance, but we are working really hard,” the 26-year-old told the “Gentleman’s Journal”.

He said he was “confident” that the future would look good for Ferrari because they were making every adjustment. However, Leclerc added clearly and openly: “But in the situation we are in at the moment, I would of course like to have a winning car.”

The Monegasque was able to win one race this season, his home Grand Prix in the principality. However, that was already three months ago. This was followed by poor results in Spielberg and Silverstone, and at the Belgian GP before the summer break he was at least able to make it onto the podium again, although with the bitter aftertaste that one of his currently up-and-coming competitors, Lewis Hamilton, won.

Leclerc: My goal is to win Formula 1 with Ferrari

Despite all the difficulties, Leclerc remains firmly behind his team. “My goal is to become Formula 1 world champion together with Ferrari and that will remain the case. I only want to do that with Ferrari – so that’s all I’m concentrating on at the moment,” the F1 driver said clearly.

Looking at the few places in the premier class of motorsport, he is humble and it will always remain that way.

“I was lucky that Ferrari supported me from the beginning and that my manager also supported me to get to where I am today,” said Leclerc.
