Ianis Hagi did not overlook what happened to him in Spain while on loan from Glasgow Rangers and spoke openly about the atmosphere in Deportivo Alaves’ clubhouse.
The Romanian international managed to calm down after an extremely tumultuous period that looked like he would never get over it and return to Rangers, but things have changed. Leaving Scotland for Spain did not bode well for Ianis Hagi. The midfielder revealed that the experience at Deportivo Alaves was a new one and he could not adapt to the conditions there and because of the dressing room.
Ianis Hagi, about the problem he encountered in Spain: “It was difficult for me”
Returned this summer to Rangers, Ianis Hagi was not exactly welcomed with open arms by his old team, having to start from 0 to enter Philippe Clement’s good graces. Ianis Hagi had a difficult year even during his time at Deportivo Alaves, a team where he did not fit in very well and did not manage to establish himself in the first “11”.
Adapting to Spanish football was much more difficult than Ianis Hagi expected, hitting a big problem in the team’s locker room too, where the mentality of his teammates was completely different from what he was used to.
“Well, it was definitely different. Starting from city, country, weather. Everything was different. I enjoyed my time in Spain just because I really appreciate how they think about football and how they train you. But at the same time, it was pretty hard for me to adjust to the mentality of not winning every game and the day-to-day mentality, which was definitely tough.
With all due respect, I think there are different types of people out there, different types of football mindsets. At the age of 26, I have learned a lot about myself so far and I know what I like and what environments make me a better person, a better player”, said Ianis Hagi, on Rangers TV.
- He marked 26 games, scored 2 goals and gave 2 assists in the season spent in Spain.
Unexpected chance received at Rangers: will return to the starting line-up
The team coached by Philippe Clement is not going through a very good period at all and the Belgian technician is pressured even by the fans to bring back Ianis Hagi in the first “11”.
The Scottish press reports that the Romanian international will start this weekend’s match with Hearts. The Romanian needs more minutes to regain his form, after playing in the second team for a good period of time.
“The Romanian will be eager to get minutes. His guile and skill could help unlock Hearts’ defence,” the Scots wrote.
- He made 101 appearances for Rangers, scoring 16 goals and providing 22 assists.
- The Scots paid 3.5 million euros to move the Romanian from Genk.
