Martorell has been placed in second place in the absolute ranking of Catalan municipalities with the highest GDP per capita during the year 2022, according to data provided by the Statistics Institute of Catalonia (Idescat). In this period, our population has reached 113,823 euros of GDP per inhabitant. This figure is well above the 34,411 euros of the Catalan average.
The ranking of municipalities with more than 5,000 inhabitants with greater production of goods and services per inhabitant in 2022 is led by La Canonja, in Tarragonès, with 118,579 euros/inhabitant. It is closely followed by Martorell, with 113,823, followed by Vandellòs and l’Hospitalet de l’Infant, in Baix Camp, with 112,028 and neighboring Castellbisbal, with 110,555. At the other end of the ranking, the Catalan municipalities with the lowest GDP were Badia del Vallès (8,456 euros), Santa Margarida de Montbui (10,687) and Cunit (11,284) are the municipalities that had the lowest GDP per inhabitant.
Martorell’s data place it well above the Catalan average and also the Baix Llobregat regional average, which is 36,667 euros. Precisely, our region was the fourth that experienced a greater increase in GDP (with 14.3%), only below Aran (22.5%), Alta Ribagorça (15.8%) and La Segarra (14.4%).
Advanced data for 2023 for municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants shows that all municipalities had a positive evolution of GDP per inhabitant compared to the previous year. This ranking is topped by Prat de Llobregat with 17.1%, while Hospitalet de Llobregat is the one that had a smaller positive evolution (5.2%). The municipalities with the highest GDP values per capita in 2023 were Prat de Llobregat (76,024 euros), Sant Cugat del Vallès (57,635 euros), Barcelona (53,756 euros), Girona (45,953 euros) and Cornellà de Llobregat (45,773 euros), while the Catalan average was 37,013 euros.
The gross domestic product (GDP) measures the final result of the production activity of the producing units in the territory. Idescat carries out GDP estimates for the regions of Catalonia and Aran, the largest municipalities of 5,000 inhabitants and the regional capitals. In addition, advanced GDP and GDP per capita data are provided for municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants.
