Idylls of the Lunar Maria

Idylls of the Lunar Maria is a charming roguelite adventure in the style of match-3 builder games. At the beginning, we choose one of three characters, each of whom has his own story, full of battles with monsters and fun, crazy dialogues.

Battles are structured around the classic match-3 puzzle. At the beginning of each level we are given instructions on which combos damage monsters and which combos to avoid because they will hurt us. There are also merge elements within the puzzle—when we merge certain objects, they evolve into new ones, which can also be merged. As the game progresses, some combos are used to heal, create shields, or cast spells.

Although the game is based on the match-3 principle, it differs from the classic version. U Idylls of the Lunar Maria we can move objects even when we don’t immediately connect them to other objects, which enables strategic planning of subsequent moves.

At each level we collect coins that we can use in the shop to buy talismans and upgrades. At first glance, Idylls of the Lunar Maria it seems like an easy game that we can go through quickly, but it soon becomes clear that planning moves and strategy is of great importance. Some monsters can call reinforcements, and trying to make the right combination, we can easily make a mistake and take damage.

The game offers two modes: Story mode and Endless mode. Losing a battle does not reset our progress—we can return to the main menu and continue the game, keeping the coins we earned.

Another element of gameplay involves conversations with the characters we meet. The dialogues are simple, with silly humor that I personally didn’t find too interesting.

As for style, Idylls of the Lunar Maria it looks like a child’s watercolor or crayon drawing. While it’s not my favorite style, I can see why some people might like it. Overall, the visuals are decent, but a bit unpolished.

Idylls of the Lunar Maria could be a great introductory game for younger players. They might enjoy her style, story and humor. For older players, the game might seem too simple, but it is certainly very cute and pleasant to play.
