American entrepreneur and billionaire Elon Musk announced on Tuesday that he will move the headquarters of his two companies, the social platform X and the space company SpaceX, from the state of California to Texas.
Protection of children
He cited a new law in California that prohibits school officials from requiring teachers to notify parents if their child changes gender identity or sexual orientation as one of the reasons for the move. Reuters reported about it.
“This is the last straw,” stated Musk on the social network X on the margin of the law. According to him, the headquarters of SpaceX will move from the Californian city of Hawthorne to the Starbase industrial complex in Texas, and the headquarters of X Corp from San Francisco to Austin, Texas.
California Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill into law on Monday. He has been praised by LGBT+ rights groups, who say he will protect the privacy and safety of transgender students – especially those who may fear their parents will not support their identity. Conservatives have promised to challenge the law in court.
“I made it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws like this will force families and businesses out of California to protect their children,” Musk wrote.
Bizarre communities
Many American schools have long gone non-traditional and protect not only their students’ queer gender identities (trans, non-binary, intersex, etc.), but even entirely specific identities. Former Minister of Education Juraj Draxler pointed them out on the social network.
“In the USA (and already in Britain), for example, the “furries” movement is gaining strength, i.e. people who identify themselves as furry beings of a slightly fairy-tale character. They mostly do it only as a kind of bizarre game, similar to how someone likes to go to a meeting of people dressed as, for example characters from Star Wars, or, for example, someone secretly wears women’s clothes in their spare time. But some of these people insist that ‘furry’ is their identity, just as for some it is male or female.” he wrote Draxler to the bizarre latest law, according to which even if a child comes with his own identity or identifies himself as another being, the school must not inform the parents about it.
Furries (fur = fur) is a subculture of children and adults who dress up as animals. These are anthropomorphic animal characters that have the ability to speak, make all sorts of expressions, walk on two legs and wear clothes. Such people gather in costumes at Furry meetings or on the Internet.
