“We had the first discussions about the construction of the Novak Djokovic museum, which should become another attraction in the city,” Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday.
Djokovic has enjoyed the status of a living legend in Serbia for a long time. The Belgrade native and winner of 24 Grand Slam titles ran a tennis academy in the capital for years and often attends sporting events and meets with officials.
“Palma de Mallorca has a museum dedicated to Rafael Nadal. We want to show what Djokovic did for our country and at the same time attract tourists,” added Vučič, who hopes that the museum will be opened before Belgrade hosts the World Expo 2027.
In Sunday’s Olympic final, Djokovic defeated Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz 7:6 (3), 7:6 (2) and won his first Olympic medal.
He joins Andre Agassi, Nadal, Steffi Graf and Serena Williams, who have won all four Grand Slam tournaments and singles at the Olympics. It was reported by the AFP agency.
