IKEA is recalling certain external batteries due to the risk of fire. Those who already own such products are asked to return them.

IKEA is sending all customers who own a Varmfront 10400 mAh portable charger (model number E2038) with date marking (AASS) 2313, 2316, 2318 and 2319 or a Varmfront 5200 mAh portable charger (model number E2037) with date marking ( AASS) 2318, 2319 and 2322 to stop using it immediately and contact IKEA for a product replacement or full refund.

“IKEA products are risk-assessed and rigorously tested to ensure that they will withstand the challenges of everyday life and that they comply with the requirements and regulations applicable in all markets where IKEA is present,” reads the the press release issued by the company.

“Despite this, we have been informed that certain Varmfront portable chargers may present a fire hazard due to a manufacturing error. This error only occurs on items bearing the above mentioned date stamps. Therefore, these Varmfront portable chargers are being recalled from the market. Customers in possession of such a product should stop using it immediately and contact IKEA for a product replacement or full refund,” the company said.

IKEA also points out that Varmfront portable chargers with other date markings are not affected by this recall.

Varmfront portable chargers with the affected date markings can be returned to any IKEA store for an exchange or a full refund. Proof of purchase (tax receipt) is not required.
