At Ikea, two models of external batteries are being urgently recalled.
Swedish flat-pack furniture giant Ikea is now facing a challenge of a completely different kind. Out with assembly problems, in with fire hazards. The culprit? Faulty external batteries that threaten to turn our homes into powder kegs.
Since July 2023, Ikea has been selling two models of the brand’s portable batteries Warm frontwith capacities of 10,400 mAh and 5,200 mAh. A manufacturing defect makes them susceptible to catching fire at any time. Enough to give cold sweats to anyone who has slipped these power banks into their bag or left them plugged in all night.
Ikea’s reaction to the crisis
Faced with this explosive situation (so to speak), Ikea did not do things by halves. The company launched a massive recall of these products, urging its customers to stop using them immediately. A hotline was even set up to answer questions from worried consumers. We can clearly see the brand’s desire to limit the damage, both in terms of safety and its brand image.
But make no mistake, this recall is not just an act of kindness on Ikea’s part. It is also a legal obligation and an economic necessity. A fire caused by one of these devices could cost the company much more than a simple refund.
