IL wants serious change in the country and announces position on OE for Thursday – Politics

The Liberal Initiative assumed this Sunday, October 20th, as the only “trustworthy” alternative that wants serious change for the country and sent the position on the State Budget for 2025 to Thursday.

Speaking in Coimbra, at the beginning of the party’s National Council meeting, the leader, Rui Rocha, defended that the liberals are, in the current political moment, the “only alternative based on trust, seriousness and rigor of the proposal” for Portugal.

“This responsibility of ours is part of the path we have been following until now. It is no coincidence that at the PSD congress, which takes place this weekend, there is not a single idea for the country”, he highlighted.

For the president of IL, the congress of social democrats has discussed differences with the previous socialist government, when “there is no political and vision divergence” and the differences are that “Some did little and others did a lot”.

The leader of the liberals accused the PSD/CDS Government of not having “the reformist impetus that the country needs” and of increasing the number of public servants, commissions and bodies, ‘task-force’, observatories and teams mission and current expenditure”.

Stressing that the differences between the current and previous Government are of execution and not of vision or policy, Rui Rocha assumed that the IL is the “most intense, most serious, most credible and systematic opposition to the wrong path” of Luís’ executive Montenegro.

The party leader announced that the party will only take and announce the position on the direction of voting on the State Budget for 2025 next Thursday, after listening to the Executive Committee, the National Council and the deputies of the parliamentary group, which will happen that day.

“This position, with the arguments we are going to discuss here, must be absolutely consistent with two essential issues: coherence with the entire journey we have taken and, above all, with the opportunity for IL to assert itself as the only party with a transformative vision for the country”, he stressed .

However, in his speech, Rui Rocha said that the State Budget proposal “does not cover or fulfill the change project that the country needs”.

At today’s IL meeting, the discussion of the State Budget for 2025 and the next municipal elections will be on the table.
