Ilon Mask announced that Tesla will use humanoid robots next year
Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the electric car maker will start producing and using humanoid robots next year.
In a post on social media, Elon Mask said that the robots will first be used by Tesla, which will start selling them in 2026.
The tech billionaire previously said he expects the robot, called Optimus, to be ready for use in Tesla factories by the end of this year.
Other firms, including Honda and Boston Dynamics, are also developing their own humanoid robots, he said BBC.
“Tesla will have really useful humanoid robots in production for Tesla’s internal use next year, and hopefully large production for other companies in 2026,” Musk said on his social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
The news came just one day before Tesla was due to announce its latest financial results. The company’s shares ended trading on Monday in New York up more than 5 percent.
Tesla’s goal
The company said it aims to create an “autonomous humanoid robot” to perform “unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks”.
Elon Musk previously said yes Tesla aims to mass-produce robots yes each costing less than $20,000 (£17,900).
He is known for setting ambitious deadlines for his companies, which he did not always meet. He said in 2019 that he was “very confident” that Tesla would have self-driving taxis on the road by next year.
Earlier this year, Ilon said that the long-awaited robot taxi will be unveiled on August 8. Last week he said the event would be postponed.
Musk did not give a new date, but said he requested a change to the front end vehicles.
“The extra time allows us to show a few more things,” he wrote.
Musk’s business is increasingly focusing on technologies such as artificial intelligence, autonomous driving and robots at a time when demand for electric vehicles is slowing.
