Elektrodistribucija Serbia has so far replaced 360,000 old meters with new, smart devices and plans to continue this project, and the plan is to replace over half a million meters. When we say smart meter, we mean first of all the technical performance that now allows energy consumption to be monitored and managed through the application, explained acting director Biljana Komnenić for RTS.
In the same period, the company also improved the power network by reconstructing 2,500 kilometers of low-voltage network and replacing 34,000 wooden poles with concrete ones. This is particularly significant considering frequent interruptions in power supply due to atmospheric discharges, but reactions on the ground are quick and efficient, even in emergency situations such as the recent power outages in Vrnjačka Banja and Trstenik, according to the website of Elektrodistribucija.
Komnenic also mentioned challenges such as connecting new users, especially when it comes to illegal structures that are often located in unexpected places, including national parks where construction is prohibited.
Elektrodistribucija received about 25,000 requests for the connection of such facilities and about 30,000 regular connections per year, and the idea presented by the director is to train and bring in younger staff, given that the number of available field teams is currently insufficient when a problem occurs.
That is why personnel promotion is also part of the plan to improve the company’s capacity and efficiency.
