In an effort to make travel safer and smoother, Waze has announced two new features to improve its users’ experience when reporting incidents on the roads.
Los changes introduced in Waze and presented by Gai Berkovich, general manager of Waze, are designed to help drivers stay informed and better react to potential dangers on the road.
Incident reporting using conversational voice recognition
Until now, Waze allowed you to report a variety of incidents, such as heavy traffic, potholes and road works. With the new function of Conversational ReportWaze simplifies the process by allowing drivers to report incidents more naturally.
Upon detecting a problem, users can simply tap the report button and speak casually, as if telling a friend.
For example, simply saying, “There appears to be stopped traffic ahead,” Waze will process the message in real time and add it to the map, without the need for specific commands.
Additionally, this feature uses advanced capabilities, known as Gemini, that interpret spoken reports accurately and efficiently.
When the system needs more details, it asks additional questions, such as “Can you describe what you see?” With this information, Waze can classify the report, helping other drivers be alerted to possible obstacles on the road.
The Conversational Report launches this week in beta for Waze Trusted Testers worldwide and is available in English on both Android and iOS. This functionality is expected to expand to more languages and users in the coming months.
Incorporation of school zones on the map
To improve safety around schools, Waze will now allow map editors to add School Zones.
This feature is designed to alert drivers when they approach areas where the presence of students and pedestrians is typically higher.
When a user approaches a school zone during opening hours, they will receive a notification reminding them to take extreme precautions.
Las School Zones will be available in the app for Android e iOS globally before the end of the year.
These Waze updates leverage technology and community collaboration to deliver tools that improve the safety and experience of its users on the road. Users can explore these new features by downloading the latest version of the application.
