Imran Khan will be freed through ‘bloody fight’, PTI warns

Hundreds of thousands of people protested to demand the release of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Leaders of Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the rally demanded his release within two weeks, or warned of a ‘bloody fight’.

PTI organized this rally in Islamabad on Sunday night. However, there was also a clash between the PTI workers and the police. Police fired tear gas to disperse the protest.

At the rally, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said, ‘If Imran Khan is not released within two weeks, we will release him ourselves’. He also warned that PTI’s ‘peaceful verbal fight’ could turn into a ‘bloody fight’ if Imran Khan is not released.

Warning of filing a case against the government party leaders, the Chief Minister of KP said, ‘Now the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province is completely under our control. I will file a case against you if Imran Khan is not released.’

Responding to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif’s comment that Imran Khan may face military trial for his involvement in the attack on the cantonment on May 9, Gandapur said, “Those whom you consider your father, cannot stand in the way of our release of Imran Khan.”

He claimed that those who made PTI former ISI chief retired Lt Gen Faiz Hamid as the head of the intelligence agency are responsible for his actions.

The KP Chief Minister said the May 9 attack was an excuse to target Imran Khan. Now PTI has decided to respond by not tolerating any kind of injustice.

“If anyone hurts us, we will hurt them,” warned Gandapur.

Incidentally, Imran Khan is facing more than 150 cases of terrorism, violence, blasphemy, corruption and murder since he was ousted by a no-confidence vote in Parliament in April 2022.

On August 5 last year, the Islamabad judge sentenced Imran Khan to 3 years in prison and banned him from politics for 5 years in the controversial Toshakhana corruption case. After the verdict, Imran Khan was arrested from his residence in Lahore. He has been in jail since then.
