In 2024, Engie has invested in the elimination of CO2 via the start-up CarboneX

In 2024, Engie has embarked on the permanent elimination of carbon dioxide (EDC) by mineralization in rocks, oceans or biomass, which promises the production of carbon credits more solid than those linked to the preservation of forests .

Its subsidiary Engie New Ventures invested in CarbonX. The Parisian start-up, created in the summer of 2022, identifies the best EDC projects in the world in order to support its customers in search of carbon compensation, via long-term contracts, of the PPA type, which make it possible to finance the projects. She organizes visits to four projects in operation in Norway at Exergi, in Switzerland at Neustark, in Scotland at OCO Technologies and in Germany at Novocarbo.

CarbonX already manages around 50,000 tonnes of carbon credits per year. Engie plans to offer CarbonX services to its customers.
