Since January 1, 2025, newborns are part of a new generation, the Beta generation.
Between physical and virtual worlds
The generations follow one another and are not alike: the oldest, born between 1946 and 1964, are part of the so-called baby boomers, this veritable explosion of births in the aftermath of the Second World War. Generation X succeeded them, with children born between 1965 and 1980, in the midst of social and economic upheaval. As for Millennials, born with video games and computers, it includes children born between 1981 and 1996.
Closer to home, Gen Z includes those born between 1997 and 2009, and who grew up with the Internet and smartphones omnipresent in their lives. But the new generation of babies born since January 1, 2025 will live in an omniconnected world where artificial intelligence will undoubtedly be omnipresent. Make way for the Beta generation, for whom, basically, the physical and digital worlds will become one.
Faced with climate change
Already, the Alpha generation, which includes people born between 2010 and 2024, will have experienced the beginning and development of artificial intelligence, without forgetting the almost limitless expansion of social networks. For Mark McCrindle, the social scientist behind the name « Gen Alpha »children who will be born from 2025 should experience “large-scale autonomous transportation, wearable health technologies and immersive virtual environments”.
But the biggest challenge this new generation will face is undoubtedly confronting the consequences and threats of climate change. And which generations will succeed the new arrival? The naming should remain faithful to the Greek alphabet. Thus, the Gamma generation will designate births from 2040 to 2054, and the Delta those born between 2055 and 2069.
