In Daugavpils, new playground equipment will be installed at several playgrounds 2

Twelve new playgrounds, including equipment suitable for children with special needs, will soon be installed at six playgrounds in the city. The new facilities will provide an opportunity for children of all ages, regardless of their physical abilities, to have active recreation, and will also contribute to the development of a family-friendly and safe environment in the city, according to the municipality’s portal.

After examining the city’s territories and assessing the availability of children’s infrastructure in various neighborhoods, it was decided to continue working on its development. Therefore, this year, near Tsesu Street, 20, a slide, a sandbox and a swing with a “Nest” seat and a regular rubberized seat will be installed. And on the playground of the Kryzhi microdistrict there will be a “Nest” swing, a pyramid of nets and a balancing swing-carousel. The “Nest” swing will be installed near Marijas Street 10, and a pyramid of nets will be installed on the playground next to the house on Liela Street 193. At the children’s sports and playground on the street. Stradnieku, 87, 83 and st. Tukuma, 24 there will be spring swings and themed play equipment with a slide. The children’s playground of the Central Beach of Bolshie Slings Lake will also be complemented by swings for wheelchair users and mesh swings, which will provide inclusive play opportunities for all young residents of the city.

Commenting on the improvement of city playgrounds, Deputy Chairman of the Daugavpils City Council Valery Kononov stated: “Upgrading playgrounds is an investment in the safety, health and well-being of children and families, and in developing a comfortable and attractive urban environment for all residents. The city’s public utilities regularly update, within budget, children’s equipment available in playgrounds to ensure that it meets European quality and safety standards, including equipment suitable for children with special needs. Thus, we strive to create a safe and accessible environment for every child, regardless of their physical abilities, where children can grow, develop and actively spend their free time».

The Public Utilities Authority urges parents and guardians to closely supervise children on playgrounds: “Our little townspeople are very active and enjoy every moment of play, so by following safety rules, we can all together make their games not only fun, but also safe».
