In Faridpur, Nixon Chowdhury, former OC, and 98 others have been sued under the Speedy Trial Act

A case has been filed against Mojibur Rahman Nixon Chowdhury, former Member of Parliament of Faridpur-4 Constituency. In the application of the case filed in the Faridpur fast track court, Nixon has been accused of threatening to kill, extortion, rioting, supporting terrorists and looting the property of others.

In the case, dismissed Faridpur Zilla Parishad Chairman Shahadat Hossain, former Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhanga Police Station Mamun Al Islam, two former Upazila Chairman, leaders and activists of two groups of Awami League, 98 people have been named and 300 others have been named as defendants.

Among the other defendants in this case are former representatives of Bhanga Upazila and Union supported by Nixon Chowdhury and activists supported by Kazi Zafar Ullah, a member of the presidium of A.League. Before this, on September 3, Rasheduzzaman alias Taskin Raju, joint convener of Upazila Chhatra Dal filed another case in Bhanga police station accusing 110 people including Nixon Chowdhury and 60 others.

Last Wednesday, Bhanga upazila volunteers team president Md. Saidur Rahman Sikder alias Mithu Faridpur filed a complaint in the court mentioning the names of 98 people including Nixon Chowdhury. The court directed the Faridpur District Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the complaint.

Confirming the matter, Saidur Rahman Mithu’s lawyer Noor Alam Siddiqui Lalon said that after hearing the complaint of the plaintiff, the learned court took note of the complaint. Later, Judge Mohammad Nasim Mahmud directed the District Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case.

According to the statement of the case, the anti-discrimination student movement started on July 1, 2024 with the imposition of quotas in the recruitment of government jobs. Due to this, a peaceful procession of anti-discrimination students along with plaintiffs took place on the highway at 10 am on August 3 at Bhanga Interchange area. On that day, the main accused, former MP Nixon Cheidhuri, Zilla Parishad Chairman Shahadat Hossain, former OC of Bhanga, Mamun Al Islam, along with accused number 1 to 10, ordered to take all kinds of steps to prevent the anti-discrimination student movement under the guidance and cooperation of each other.

According to the details of the complaint, cocktails, hand grenades and bricks were thrown at the students with the intention of killing them with the witness and indirect participation of the accused. Bhanga Police Station OC Mamun Al Islam along with his associates resisted the anti-discrimination student movement by firing around 100 bullets and tearcells. Students and common passers-by were injured in this. At one stage, the participants of the movement, including the plaintiff, fled the scene and went to Bhanga Upazila Health Complex for treatment.

After that, due to the attack and intimidation of the accused, the injured took treatment elsewhere. The plaintiff went to Banga police station after a few days for the case in this incident. But after not getting any legal help from OC Mamun Al Islam, the plaintiff approached the court later.

Saifur Rahman Miron, president of Bhanga Upazila Awami League, a supporter of Kazi Zafar Ullah, demanded that if any such incident happens, then those involved should be punished. But no innocent person should be harassed.

Upazila Awami League’s supporter of former MP Nixon Chowdhury. Sobahan Munshi claimed that teachers, journalists and Awami League leaders and activists are being harassed in Bhanga in false cases. Therefore, he demanded justice through impartial and fair investigation.

Former OC of Bhanga police station Mamun Al Islam told reporters that he did not know the plaintiff. The allegation is completely false and fabricated.
