In the heart of Milan, right in the centre between Brera and via della Moscova, 180 mq on the top floor of a rationalist building come back to color thanks to a saturated and material palette. But the project does not stop there, in fact this house hides a secret: on the rooftop a Panoramic terrace a 360° offers a breathtaking view of the city.
Mariana Martini e Fanni Szarvas are the architects who took care of the renovation of this apartment through a contemporary but at the same time eclectic look, preferring a creative language and in step with the Italian-Brazilian origins of the homeowners.
She is in fact Brazilian, she lives surrounded by colors of his land and brings with him all the warmth of South America; he was born in Italy, has always worked with his family and follows the rhythms of Milan. Their home could only be a mix of cultures and dreamlike suggestions. «The project is in perfect balance between two different energies floating throughout the house“, says Mariana Martini who leaves nothing to chance, carefully studying every single element. “The intent was to satisfy both souls, for this reason in every environment there is something of one and something of the other.” If the furnishings follow a more rationalist stylistic line, it is the surfaces and decorations that range from one shape to another and from one colour to another.
Wood and ceramic are the two constants that run through the entire apartment: from the kitchen to the bathrooms, to the living area, these materials chase each other in a dance. The heart of the house is undoubtedly the living room, which is wrapped in a Oak paneling that becomes a bookcase and TV stand at the same time. The rational subdivision of the wooden modules is combined with the Brazilian straw coverings of the doors that recall the folklore and naturalness of South American materials. The rest of the furnishings, such as the sofa Cassina and the walnut table, recall organic forms and dialogue with the works of art on the wall. One of these takes on greater importance due to its colours and ethereal forms: a work from the series was chosen Inner Worlds Of Ilaria Franzawhich dialogues well with the glass suspensions Of Boom. «One of the client’s prerogatives was to use these light lamps as real sculptures hanging from the ceiling. And so we structured the project starting from their colors» says the architect.
But the real gem is the Terrace: located on the rooftop, this green area offers a 360° view of Milan. The space has been embellished with a material intervention that included and floating teak floor and a green wing used as a parapet. The furnishings, designed by Patricia Urquiola for Cassina, have been positioned as enveloping and colorful islands, creating a welcoming and lively environment.
