In Norway, 9 out of 10 cars sold in 2024 are EVs

L’89% from the new cars sold in Norway in 2024 it is represented by electric onesaccording to a report by Road Traffic Information Council. Out of 128,691 total registrations, 114,400 were battery-powered vehicles.

This data is close Norway aims to end sales of combustion engine cars by 2025. The Norwegian Council for Road Traffic Information (OFV) said: “we are only 10% away from reaching the 2025 target“. In August 2024, the percentage of new electric cars had already reached 94%setting a world record.

Electric cars are sold at a rate of approx 10,000 units per monthcompared to 1,200 for petrol ones. This trend is rapidly changing the composition of the Norwegian fleet. The vehicles diesels still represent around 35% of cars on the roadwith approximately 1 million units. However, diesel consumption is falling sharply, a sign that these vehicles are used less and less.

It remains to be seen whether will the Norwegian experience represent a model for other European countries or will it remain an isolated case, the result of particularly favorable conditions. The transition towards electric mobility in Norway, however, it continues to proceed at a rapid pace, placing the country at the global forefront in this sector.
