The First Western District Military Court sentenced Alexey Baranov, a native of the Pskov region, to 18 years in prison for attempting to set fire to the building of the Russian Guard and two police cars in St. Petersburg. The publication reports this MR7.

The man was found guilty under several articles of the Criminal Code – manufacturing explosive devices (Article 223.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), public calls for terrorism (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), participation in a terrorist community (Part 2 of Article 205.4 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) and treason (Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). In addition, Baranov must also pay a fine of 550 thousand rubles.

The convicted person must spend three years in prison, and then he will be transferred to a general regime colony.

Let us recall that in January 2023, Baranov broke a window in the building of the Russian Guard on Zanevsky Prospekt. Then the man wanted to set fire to the premises, but for reasons beyond his control he was unable to complete his malicious intent. Baranov later compensated the material damage to the Russian Guard in the amount of 113.4 thousand rubles.
