Every summer our little light blue Renault 4L climbed heroically up the Norwegian mountains with my father behind the wheel. Now my father has definitely let go of the wheel, but in my thoughts he is still sitting there next to my mother. On the way up to the crisp air of Norway, where he was at his best, while I sat on the middle pole of the back seat flanked by my older sisters, who once again had to sigh a little that the journey did not go to sunny Southern Europe this time either.
So it awakens something special in me when ‘The Last Journey’ is about an old father behind the wheel of a vintage Renault 4. Admittedly, the little nudge in the film is orange, but it’s about a father and a son and a small car , and I am sold on licorice sticks.
