Swedish police are investigating the death of two people whose bodies were found in a burnt-out car in the southern Swedish city of Malmö on Sunday afternoon as a possible murder. The bodies have not yet been identified, so police are unable to say whether they could belong to two British citizens who are missing in Sweden, the AP reported today.
Bodies with gunshot wounds were found in a car with a Danish license plate. According to Swedish media, the vehicle was rented by a British citizen at Copenhagen airport. The driver and passenger then crossed the Danish-Swedish border and headed for nearby Malmö.
Swedish police refused to confirm local media reports. “We can neither confirm nor deny it. We cannot yet comment on the age, gender or nationality” of the people who were reportedly shot in an industrial area of Sweden’s third-largest city on Sunday, Malmö police spokeswoman Kerstin Gossé said.
“We are supporting the families of the two British men who are missing in Sweden and are in contact with the authorities there,” a British Foreign Office spokesman told BBC News when asked about the incident.
