On July 16, at 8:40 p.m., the alarm center was informed that thick smoke was coming from the basement of a five-story apartment building on Kastani Street in Haapsalu.
In addition, smoke seeped into the apartments through the ventilation. Rescuers in smoke diving equipment entered the basement and were able to localize the fire, which was probably caused by an electrical device failure, by 20:50.
One or two people who felt unwell due to wheezing were taken to the emergency room.
The rescuers checked all apartments with a carbon monoxide analyzer and reviewed the condition of the people. The stairwell, apartments and basement were ventilated until the carbon monoxide disappeared from the building. The rescue event was completed at 23.11.
