In the final stretch, the tenders for road and railway projects, amounting to 1.35 billion euro

The tenders for the road and railway rehabilitation works in the regions of Thessaly and Central Greece after the catastrophic floods “Daniel” and “Elias” are now in the final stretch.

These are projects worth a total of 1.35 billion. euros and the tender process is expected at the beginning of December. In fact, as announced from the floor of the Parliament, the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Nikos Tachiaos, on December 5-6, the invitations are going to be sent to technical companies, in order to participate in fast-track tenders.

The works will be done under Article 32 of Law 4412/2019, negotiation process with the candidate contractors without prior publication, facilitates the conduct of fast procedures for the award of public works under extraordinary circumstances.

Railway projects

The projects amounting to 460 million euros are necessary for the restoration of the Athens-Thessaloniki railway axis, which currently operates with one line in the Domokos-Larissa section, as well as the regional lines Paleofarsalos-Kalambaka and Larissa-Volos, which have also been put out of service.

Specifically, the projects to be auctioned are the following:

  • Rehabilitation of the double railway line Athens – Thessaloniki, from the exit of S.S. Domokou (X.Th. 288+600) to the entrance of SS. Krannona (X.Th. 328+840) after the “Daniel” and “Elias” theomenies with a Budget of 173,600,000 Euros (including VAT).
  • Rehabilitation of the single railway line Paleofarsalos – Kalambakas, in identified sections of the line, after the “Daniel” and “Elias” disasters with a Budget of 57,660,000 Euros (including VAT).
  • Restoration of the single railway line Larissa – Volos after the “Daniel” and “Elias” disasters, with a Budget of 181,660,000 Euros (including VAT).
  • Restoration works of the railway line Volos – Mileon by S.S. ‘Ano Lechonia (X.Th. 12+500) to S.S. Mileon (X.Th. 28+200) after the divine names “Daniel” and “Elias”, with a Budget of 1,860,000.00 Euro (including VAT).
  • Restoration of the Signaling, ETCS L1, Remote Control and Electrification systems in the section of the double railway line from SS Paleofarsalo (X.TH 296+245) to SS Krannon (XTH 336+330) that was destroyed by the bad weather “Daniel”, with a Budget of 37,200 .000,00 Euro (with VAT).

The road works

The road projects amounting to 900 million euros concern the urgent projects to restore infrastructure damage from the severe weather phenomena “Daniel” and “Elias”.

The work will be done on a total length of 159 kilometers of road network, including 110 bridges and the resources will be distributed by regional unit as follows: 33% of Magnesia, 25% of Trikala, 21% of Karditsa, 9.5% of Larissa, 9.5% of Evia and 2% of Fthiotida.

It is about:

  1. Rehabilitation projects in the Municipalities of Zagora – Mouresi, South Pelion, Volos and Riga Ferai, with a budget of 278.2 million. euro.
  2. Restoration projects in the Municipalities of Argithea, Limni Plastira, Meteora and Pyli, with a budget of 267.5 million. euro.
  3. Rehabilitation projects in the Municipalities of Tempo, Tyrnavo, Elassona, Agia, Larissa, Farkadona, Kilelere, Palama, Mouzaki, Trikkaia and Karditsa, with a budget of 184 million. euro.
  4. Rehabilitation projects in the municipalities of Istiaia, Mantoudi, Domokos, Lamia, Almyros, Farsala and Sofades with a budget of 170 million. euro.

Funding and implementation

The resources from the Recovery Fund amount to 600 million. euros and are divided into 420 million euros for roads and another 180 million euros for rail. The public expenditure amounts to 396.6 million. euros and 226.86 million euros respectively.

The sending of the invitations to the technical companies for the holding of the fast track tenders, as mentioned above, is expected in the near future, since the aim of the ministry is to immediately run the projects for the restoration of damage to both the railway and road network.
