In the first half of the year, the amount of cargo handled in Ventspils port terminals decreased by 31.7% / Day

In the first half of 2024, 2.442 million tons of cargo were sent from Ventspils port, which is 23.4% less than last year in the corresponding period, while the amount of received cargo decreased by 42.1%, amounting to 1.47 million tons.

In the six months of this year, 1.616 million tons of bulk cargo were handled in Ventspils port terminals, which is 33.6% less than in the corresponding period a year earlier, followed by bulk cargo, which was handled in the amount of 1.455 million tons, which is 29.8% less, but the volume of handled general cargo decreased by 31.2% and amounted to 841,400 tons.

In the six months of this year, 1.345 million tons of oil products were handled in Ventspils port terminals, which is 40.5% less than in the corresponding period of 2023, ro-ro or “roll on/roll off” cargo was handled in the amount of 670,000 tons, which is about 33.6% less, but coal handled in the amount of 534,300 tons, which is 37.7% less.

In the first half of the year, a total of 477 ships were handled in the port of Ventspils, which is 193 ships less than in the first half of 2023, when 637 ships were handled in the port’s terminals.

It has already been announced that a total of 10.418 million tons of cargo were handled in the terminals of Ventspils port last year, which is 29.3% less than in 2022, including 5.73 million tons of cargo were handled in the port in the last six months.

Ventspils port is the second largest port in Latvia in terms of cargo handled.
