One day, maybe, for pay highway tolls there will be no need to have a box like those on board Telepass, UnipolMove e MooneyGo. All you have to do is register on a portal, enter your license plate number, your bank account number and you’re done.
A technology being tested on the Naples ring road with the TargaGo service, which the minister spoke about Matthew Salvini during question time in the House.
Experimental only
The head of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport has underlined how
This is an experiment whose certifications we must evaluate and whose effectiveness and sustainability we must test. Only after the experiment has been completed will we be able to evaluate whether the new collection system, which remains complementary to the existing ones, can be integrated into the motorway service regime or not.
The TargaGo system will therefore not be extended to other motorway sections for now and if the results are positive at the end of the trial period it will not replace Telepass, UnipolMove and MooneyGo, but will work alongside them.
Exactly as happens on the Pedemontana (A36 motorway), where the Free Flow system has been active for years – different from the Video Tolling active on the Naples ring road – alongside the classic electronic toll collection methods.
How TargaGo works
The TargaGo system uses cameras latest generation device capable of reading with extreme precision the license plates of cars crossing a certain stretch of road, passing under special portals. To use it, it is necessary register on the dedicated website or on the app, by entering the vehicle’s license plate and the current account from which to withdraw the toll money.
Unlike the various Telepass, UnipolMove and MooneyGo TargaGo has no additional costs.
