In Thailand, the minimum wages will be raised from January 1, 2025. The minimum wage is being raised to 400 baht per day from January 1, 2025. In the past, a monthly salary person has earned a good 9,000 baht per month, or about 250 euros. Of course, there are exceptions for people who are highly educated and work in successful companies.
According to Bangkok Post’s government source, the Ministry of Labor has already issued a detailed plan to raise the minimum wage to 400 baht per working day throughout the country, says Thai Finn website.
When talking about salaries, it can be noted that how much of the gross salary is left after taxes and after that the purchasing power of the net salary.
A comparison
If in Finland you can buy a day’s lunch for, for example, €12 (approx. 430 baht), then a Thai person gets his lunch from a noodle cart for 40 baht. Rents are also in different proportions compared to Finland. If renting, a Finn would pay, for example, €600 (approx. 21,500 baht) and a Thai person in Pattaya would pay 2,500 baht/month at the cheapest price.
Preparations to raise the minimum wage level have already started.
Regarding the new minimum wages, an exception is made for SMEs. They are given a year to adapt their operations to the new minimum wage law. In practice, this means price increases and/or layoffs.
Wages will rise more
Thaksin Sinawatra told a local election event held in Udon Thani in mid-November that the government led by the Pheu Thai party will raise the daily minimum wages to 400 baht and later to 700 baht.
According to him, the minimum wages for monthly employees would be raised from the current 15,000 baht (approx. €417) to 25,000 baht (approx. €696) per month during the current government.
