(Incheon = Newsis) Reporter Ruby Lee = Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is moving forward with revitalizing school physical education and establishing an Incheon-style integrated health support system as a cornerstone for advancing the era of student success to the next level.
On the 18th, the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education held a press conference in the briefing room and announced that it would establish the ‘Incheon School Physical Education Comprehensive Development Plan’ with the goal of a paradigm shift in school physical education and spur quality physical education by improving the operation of physical education.
First, the ‘1·1·1 Sports Project’ (1 school, 1 student, 1 sports education), which is currently being operated in 200 elementary schools and 14 sports, will be fully expanded to all elementary and middle schools and more than 18 sports next year.
The ‘Morning Vitamin Good Morning Physical Education’ (Incheon-style morning physical education activity), currently being operated in 151 elementary, middle, and high schools, will be expanded to all elementary and middle schools next year. ‘Walking with Teachers’, which incorporates walking into daily life, will also be implemented in all schools, and ‘Barefoot Walking’ is scheduled to be piloted in approximately 30 schools in 2025.
In addition, in order to strengthen the capacity of elementary and secondary school physical education teachers and improve the quality of physical education classes, we will continue to operate the ‘Master Club’, which supports teachers’ voluntary and cooperative clubs, autonomous and job training, and the ‘Incheon Physical Education Festival’, which is jointly hosted by professional learning communities and Incheon regional teacher’s colleges to practice research and sharing of class cases.
Through research on the restructuring policy of Incheon Sports High School, a model for a leading elite athlete training school will also be developed. A study on the operation policy of school sports clubs will be conducted in 2025, and a gradual, comprehensive reorganization of school sports clubs will be promoted starting in 2026. In particular, plans are in place to foster basic and vulnerable sports through customized school sports club operation.
We will also continue to operate the Incheon-style physical education community of cooperation and companionship that provides students with diverse experiences of success by establishing governance with local universities, professional sports teams, and the Incheon City Sports Council.
In addition, the city education office is establishing an ‘Incheon-type integrated student health support system’ to create an environment where students can grow into people with healthy bodies, emotions, and personalities.
Currently, the Physical Education and Health Education Department, School Life Education Department, and Policy Planning and Coordination Office are each promoting physical, mental, and social health management projects.
The Office of Education will reorganize the relevant departments and restructure the system into a student-centered customized support and comprehensive and comprehensive health promotion system. Specific policies will be implemented through processes such as forming a TF team, collecting opinions from various fields, and consulting with relevant departments of the Office of Education.
Kim Ki-chun, head of the Physical Education and Health Education Department, said, “We will do our best to provide health education based on ‘reading, walking, and writing’ so that our students can grow into future talents who can practice knowledge through learning through health and gain wisdom for life.”
