The Four Hills Tournament is heading towards a furious finale in Bischofshofen. Three Austrian ski jumpers are close together before the fourth competition. After the third stop in Innsbruck, expert Martin Schmitt was particularly enthusiastic about one veteran.
Stefan Kraft has taken the lead at the 73rd Four Hills Tournament. The 31-year-old flew away from the competition on Bergisel and is now in the overall ranking with 887.10 points, ahead of his Austrian teammates Jan Hörl (886.50) and Daniel Tschofenig (885.80).
Power is “really unbelievable,” ski jumping expert Martin Schmitt raved about the new tour leader on “Eurosport.” “You wonder how he deals with the situation, the pressure and the expectations (…). But he always finds an answer. It’s really brutal the way he jumps,” praised the German ski jumping legend.
Schmitt also emphasized the risk that would take away strength at the take-off table. “But he always gets into the system and always has just enough air under the ski to have buoyancy,” the 46-year-old analyzed the Austrian’s aggressive technique.
Schmitt: “Open race” at the 73rd Four Hills Tournament
The three-way battle between Kraft, Hörl and Tschofenig for the Golden Eagle at the 73rd Four Hills Tournament is “an open race, the form of the day decides,” said Schmitt, taking a cautious look ahead to Bischofshofen.
The decisive competition takes place on Monday (4:30 p.m. in the live ticker on sport.de). Already on Sunday (4:30 p.m. in the live ticker on sport.de), the qualification takes place on the Paul-Außerleitner-Schanze.
Kraft was able to win the Four Hills Tournament in 2014/15 – as the last Austrian to date. For Hörl and Tschofenig, however, it would be their first triumph at the highlight of the season.
