When the old generation Defender went out of production, many enthusiasts sighed. Among them was Sir Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of Ineos.
Thus, his desire was to create a successor to the Land Rover Defender, an SUV that could handle the toughest conditions and surfaces. Thus was born the Ineos Grenadier, the SUV with BMW heart, British soul, which is assembled in Hambach, in the former Smart assembly complex in France.
I couldn’t stay away from the car, so I took a test drive. Ineos Grenadier is available in Romania through Automobile Bavaria. This will be an exclusive dealer that will handle the marketing of the Ineos Grenadier and customers have several configurations available.
The car we tested was a Grenadier Trialmaster, equipped with BMW’s 3.0 liter diesel engine. We already know it from many models, it is about the B57, and in the case of the Grenadier it produces 250 HP and 550 Nm of torque. The eight-speed automatic gearbox is also taken from BMW, but this ZF 8HP is fitted to many other cars, not just BMW. Of course, the car gets all-wheel drive as standard.
How much does Ineos Grenadier cost in Romania?
The Ineos Grenadier is a genuine off-roader. The Grenadier is built on a ladder-type chassis and has rigid decks. The vehicle also features coil springs with progressive resistance.
It’s no small car either, given that it measures 4,896mm in length, 1,930mm in width, 2,036mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,922 metres. Ground clearance is generous, as befits any off-roader, measuring 264mm. In addition, the maximum depth of passage through a water ford is 80 centimeters.
Even though it looks like an old Defender, the Grenadier is a modern 4X4. It features a square-section ladder chassis, permanent 4×4 drive, two-speed transfer case and center-lock differential on all models, which will make it very capable off-road.
In Romania, the Ineos Grenadier Station Wagon has a starting price of 82,895 euros including VAT.
