Earlier this year, reports suggested that three foldable devices are in the works: B6, Q6 and Q6a from Samsung. The first two are the Z Flip6 and Z Fold6. As for the “Q6a”, it has been speculated to be the Galaxy Z Fold FE, Z Fold Slim or Z Fold Ultra.
Work on this model continues – Το GalaxyClub found evidence that developers are building firmware for a phone with a model number SM-F958N, while the Z Fold6 model is codenamed SM-F956. The last digit indicates the device category (eg S24+ is SM-S926, S24 Ultra is SM-S928) and the last letter indicates the region. “N” is for Korea, while Chinese models use “0” (zero).
In addition, the SM-F958N firmware is configured for KOO, KTC, SKC and LUC country codes, they are for carriers in South Korea. In other words, this is the three largest telecommunication providers in South Korea and an unbranded model.
The Allround-PC team claims to have information that the Q6a model, Galaxy Z Fold6 Ultra, or whatever it will end up being called, will also be released in China. Its commercial launch in Korea and China is reportedly scheduled for October.
If this is true, then this will be the Samsung W25. Samsung’s foldables are branded differently in China (W instead of Z) and coded slightly differently overseas. Here’s the Samsung W24 and the Galaxy Z Fold5 from last year, for example. Also note that the W24 had 16GB of RAM, while the international model only had 12GB.
However, this would be a much bigger change than the standard W device, and Samsung has never sold the W models outside of China. Any chance of an even wider launch? We’ll have to wait and find out.
