Amid recent controversy over the work behavior of police officers in the Jeonbuk region, the Jeonbuk Police Agency is conducting an inspection and investigation into them.

According to the Jeonbuk Police Agency on the 17th, two employees of the Iksan Mangseong Police Station are under inspection and investigation on charges of violating the duty of good faith.

They are suspected of failing to properly investigate a 1-ton truck that was left abandoned on a river embankment in Mangseong-myeon on July 20th.

After receiving a report from a resident that there was an abandoned vehicle, the dispatched employees inspected the vehicle, but were unable to identify any special features, mistook it for a simple abandoned vehicle, and requested a tow from Iksan City Hall.

However, when a body with white bones was discovered in this vehicle on the 3rd, controversy arose over the poor initial investigation, claiming that the dispatched employees at the time did not properly investigate the vehicle.

A police official acknowledged that the initial search was inadequate, but also passed responsibility to Iksan City, saying that discovery was further delayed because the local government did not tow the vehicle.

In addition, the Jeonbuk Police Agency is looking into whether there are any charges against an employee of the Wanju Police Station, who became controversial for leaking information about a drunk hit-and-run offender to the suspect.

It was revealed that the employee in question disclosed information about the store of the reporter who caught him to the suspect in a drunk driving hit-and-run accident that occurred at an intersection in Jang-dong, Deokjin-gu, Jeonju on the 11th of last month.

At the time, the suspect was driving down the road while drinking and crashed into a taxi, then got out of the car and ran away.

A citizen who discovered this succeeded in chasing down and apprehending the suspect, but later, while the police were investigating Mr. A, they leaked information about the store run by the reporter to the suspect.

When Mr. A heard this information, it was reported that after the investigation was over, he went to the store run by the reporter.

An official from the Jeonbuk Police Agency said, “An inspection investigation is currently in progress regarding the two employees of the Mangseong Police Station. In the case of the employees of the Wanju Police Station, we are currently determining the facts, and if a problem is confirmed, an inspection investigation will also be conducted.”
