You can use the nickname function by tapping on the name of the person you are chatting with. Creating a nickname can continue inside jokes or simply allow for more personal approaches. These names only appear in the 1:1 chats. Users can decide who can change a nickname.
Finally, Instagram now allows location sharing in the DM context. Like on Snapchat, users can mark their location or specify a meeting point with a pin. This means friends, colleagues, etc. can meet more quickly and easily.
Location sharing works in 1:1 chats and groups, but is turned off by default and only active for one hour. The location cannot be forwarded beyond the chat. Sharing can be canceled at any time. And Meta advises you to be conscientious about the function.
Since this feature is currently only available in selected markets, it could be a long time coming in Germany – possibly due to EU data protection regulations.
