With new navigation, Instagram places direct messages more prominently. Platform boss Adam Mosseri remains cautious as the community views the change critically.
Instagram not only allows users to scroll through content, but also to exchange messages with other users as well as with brands and creators. The creator couple Iris Gavric and Matthias Renger recently emphasized in an interview with OnlineMarketing.de that
Instagram is a central factor for your community management (…)
and highlighted the importance of the platform in Germany. This makes it clear that direct messages play a central role in both private and business contexts. The introduction of broadcast channels, which enable creators to communicate more effectively one-to-many, also underlines the growing importance of direct messages for interacting with existing and potential followers. And now there is a test that may bring news on Instagram even more into focus.
Instagram tests new placement for direct messages – community expresses criticism
The relevance of direct messages is supported by a statement from Instagram platform boss Adam Mosseri, who recently explained in a post on Threads that users use the message function more often than the button for creating content.
Against this background, he announced a new view in which the meta network is testing to place direct messages more prominently in the app. Specifically, the DM area will be moved to a middle position and integrated into a view in which users can swipe to the news as usual. It then replaces the prominently placed Create button in the navigation bar.
However, the community reacts critically to the new navigation. In a comment on Threads, a user under Mosseri’s post said that the fact that the message button on Instagram is used more often than the create button should give him pause.
