From Spotify to TikTok, the media that these apps and services present to us are selected by algorithms always attentive and continually learning. Even though they may sometimes seem to know our tastes better than us, the desire to completely reset everything is always alive. Luckily, Instagram is taking things a step further with a new tool that offers what amounts to a big recommendation reset button.
Meta shares the news of Instagram’s new recommendation reset option in the context of protection of adolescents and providing tools to better control their IG experience, but this is a feature that is sure to find broader appeal.
You can choose to keep the list of followed accounts intact, but the app will give you the option to delete unwanted entries during the reset of the algorithm. This is a general clean slate, which pertains to Explore, Reels and your Feed. Meta also suggests making the most of the ability to mark content in Explore as “Interesting“, positively signaling to the algorithm that this sort of thing is for you.
