Scheduling features are one of the most important tools for creators and social media managers. Instagram now wants you to be able to send DMs at any time.
Post, plan, perfect: Social media is giving its creators more and more options to play posts, live videos or videos in a variety of formats at the best possible time. Sometimes you simply need the planning option because you are not available at certain times but still want to post or share something online. While Gen AI features already provide automation options for replies in chats in many contexts, Instagram wants to help users with a planning option for DMs.
Schedule direct messages: First test with potential for creators
Since the end of 2022, creators on Instagram have finally been able to plan posts in the app – this has been a much-requested feature for a long time. Since 2023, they have also been able to pre-plan stories via third parties, scheduled posts have been officially available since fall 2022, and reels and live videos can also be pre-planned.
The function for pre-scheduling DMs could be added soon. App researcher Nicky Sweet discovered a corresponding test and shared a screenshot on Threads.

This shows that it is possible to pre-plan messages at any time. This could offer social media managers, creators, and private users a welcome opportunity to plan messages – for example, in international exchanges with different time zones.
However, the feature is still a limited test. Meta has not yet commented on it. It is therefore unclear whether and when Instagram will roll out the function to everyone. However, Instagram has integrated some planning features in recent years and could soon add this option to match. We will keep you updated and inform you as soon as there is an official rollout.
Now official:
